Interested in learning how to use the X-Carve, Make717's 48" by 48" wood CNC? Classes are offered on an "on demand" basis to members who complete the following requirements:
- Must be approved to use the Carvey and have completed 3 projects successfully. No experience with the Carvey? Check the Events page for upcoming Carvey classes, which are offered monthly.
- Must have a valid account with Inventables for Easel "Basic". This is the free version of Easel, and members should have set up an account as part of the Carvey orientation. If a member does not have an account, they can set one up at Inventables.com.
Prepare for the X-Carve Pro Coaching Session:
Create your project in Easel to carve. This need to be complicated, but should involve some pocking and through carving operations. As a guideline, your design should use multiple bits to gain familiarity with the machine and undertsand clearing vs. detail pathing techniques. It is not recommended to have your first carve on the X-Carve Pro involve any 3D (relief carving) components.
Gather your materials - You will need to have your own router bits and material for the coaching session. (If you need help selecting these, the Discord Channel below is a great place to get your questions answered.)
Once you have a design, bits, and materials, reach out on the Wood Shop // #Woodshop-CNC channel on the Make717 Discord and request a training session. Our X-Carve coaches (Tom Shevock, Mike Ireland, Clint Bouder, Micah Story) will work with you on any questions you may have and set up a time to come into the space and accomplish your carve. Your coach will coordinate the facility reservation and verify machine availability.
