Intermediate wood turning: Hollow Turning through a small Opening

Using both Make 717 lathes (Rikon and Jet), we will explore hollow turning cherry Burl blanks (provided by Make) using both store bought and home made hollowing tools.

First, we will turn an enclosed vessel thru a large-ish opening. This will help with understanding how the tools cut. Then we will try our hand at turning a thin wall ornament globe thru a small opening. Chucking methods will be discussed and demonstrated.

Sharpening Make’s tools and hollowing tools will be reviewed.

This is an intermediate class, and experience with the lathe is required. Turning fundamentals will not be emphasized.
