This course is designed to add to your existing laser skill set. It is not for new users of the laser; for that, take Equipment Orientation: Laser Cutter. You must have passed the basic laser orientation, and have at least 30 days of experience using the laser for cutting/engraving. You must be a member in good standing or a STEMPass holder. Class is limited to 4 bodies.

Objectives of this class:

  • Operate the Accuris laser. The Accuris is a 60W Synrad CO2 laser, optimized for engraving. By default it is configured as a rotary engraver. Rotary cutting is not encouraged.
  • Mount an object in the rotary axis.
  • Focus the laser.
  • Design for the Accuris rotary axis.
    • Import and position graphics in Inkscape, the host software for the Accuris driver.
    • Configure the Accuris printer driver, which prepares your design for engraving.
  • Discuss power and speed settings for various materials.
  • Logging requirements for the Accuris laser.

If time permits, additional topics will be covered:

  • When to use the Full Spectrum rotary axis. The Full Spectrum is an 80W CO2 laser optimized for cutting. It may be used for rotary engraving or cutting.
  • Install and remove the rotary axis for the Full Spectrum laser.
  • Align the rotary axis with the X axis.
  • Lens selection for rotary engraving or rotary cutting.
  • Mount an object in the rotary axis.
  • Focus the laser.
  • Configure the axis in Retina Engrave.
  • Design for the rotary axis.
  • Discuss power and speed settings for various materials.
  • Logging requirements for the Full Spectrum laser.

Class is subject to cancellation - our laser is working off an extension cord from the masonry department. They may unplug us at any time. Also, the content is under development. However, early adopters get to provide feedback and shape the rotary class.

This class is led by Michael Dennis, LAMA.
